TWOT: The Fourth Age

Character Sheet

Section 1: Character description

Name: Hadley Ablar

Age: 29

Hair: thick, full head o’hair, blond, wavy and a lil’ spiky

Eyes: brown

Height: 5'11"

Other physical attributes (include style of dress, build, etc.): Hadley dresses like he just stepped out of a wild west movie.  Mostly brown pants, a faded orange shirt (or multi-colored), an occasional gray vest, and covered with dust or soot.  He’s taller than he looks, and that just plain doesn’t make sense.  His hair has a mind of its own, and he lets it do what it wants.  Not like he could talk it out of anything.

Gifts (channeling, wolfkin, etc.): channeling...though only in his specialty, good cheer

Personality: There’s only one word to describe Hadley:  funny.  Hadley’s lived a relatively sheltered life, and he takes each day with a smile and a hum.  He has a natural ability to crack jokes and make people laugh.  If he can’t, he dedicates himself to the task until he succeeds.  He’s also deeply loyal to those he considers friends and cares for, and will spend day and night to lift someone out of the pits.

Power Specialization: making Power-wrought weapons and cuendillar.  Doing either is like breathing to Hadley, coming so naturally to him he sometimes does it without even realizing it.  Unfortunately, he’s somewhat of a girly-man when it comes to trying any other kind of weave.  His fireball wouldn’t scorch a flea, and a two-year old could break his attempt at a shield.  He’s a joker, not a fighter.  Or a lover.

History: A mighty descendant of Logain Ablar, Branimir Ablar in his infinite wisdom begat five children...and Hadley.  Somewhat of a burp in the Ablar lineage, Hadley possessed great strength in the One Power—but only in the making of cuendillar and the working of metals.  Some say he also inherited most of the family’s sense of humor, as it seemed to have no end.  He was putting on private shows for his parents when he was still a toddler, using his siblings as visual aids whenever he could.

Born into great affluence, Hadley took a greater interest in comedy than anything else, such as affairs of state, fighting, or even basket-weaving.  But his gift with the One Power obligated him to learn how to use it.  And so Hadley began a very unofficial apprenticeship with a retired Asha’man residing in their home of Jehannah.  It didn’t take long for everyone to realize Hadley’s only skill lay in creating cuendillar and absolutely nothing else.  His parents were baffled.  Hadley tried to crack jokes.  His “older” twin sister Winn almost blew him up with some funny herbs as part of some diabolical scheme to set loose the Dark One...or so Hadley teased her.

Subsequently, Hadley was sent with Winn to the Cairhien School of Science.  Once there, the funny took a back seat while his instructors plied his mind toward technology, where he demonstrated an aptitude that surpassed even his gift at humor.  Unlike some of the other savants, though, he didn’t get lost in his work and never lost his love for comedy.  While Winn excelled at mathematics and scientific theory, Hadley’s skill lay along engineering and doing the impossible with cuendillar.  He brought her ideas to life, not always thinking about what could be done with them.  More than once, their collaborations remained classified and hidden away from public eyes.

After a while, he overcame his naiveté.  Then one day Winn told him she was going to Whitebridge and needed his help.  Horrified that the Andorans had no sense of humor, Hadley rushed to join his sister.  Little did he know the real reason...dum dum dum!

Weapons (swords, knives, etc.): ...What’s a weapon?  No, seriously.

Organization/affiliation/status/light or darkfriend: What’s an affiliation?  The dark scares him...he uses a nightlight.

Skills (hunting/tracking, blademaster, etc.): blacksmithing and uhh, blacksmithy things.  He’s also a master of the funny.  Legend has it he could make the DO himself chortle with glee.  He’s also one of the few who can translate his wacky sister’s creations from paper to steel.

Warders/companions/pets: Hadley wonders what a Warder is and if they come in a size 7.

Would you be willing to kill this character off should the storyline dictate it? Yeah, I guess.  It’s always got the be the funny guy, doesn’t it?  You monster.

Desired talents: the uncanny ability to both wiggle his ears and touch his tongue with his nose...or perhaps the other way around

Desired items: a shocklance, preferably functional.  Cheapskate.

Other character-related desires (including more strength in the One Power): to learn the secret arts of origami from the master himself...
